Emergency Mode

Your number has been taken

Your phone lost service without explanation and your number may have been moved to someone else. Move quickly and in order.

What this assumes

  • Your phone has no mobile service. Use a computer, or another phone, on Wi-Fi.
  • You have internet access over Wi-Fi, and access to another phone to make calls.

Do these first

Containment. Minutes matter here and nothing else does.

  1. Call your carrier from another phone and say you believe your number has been transferred without authorisation. Ask for it to be restored and for a port freeze on the account.
  2. While you wait, change your primary email password from a computer.
  3. Change the passwords on your financial accounts next.
  4. Sign out all other sessions on each account as you go.
  5. Check each account for a changed recovery phone number or email address, and change it back.

Afterwards

When the immediate situation is over, a plan is what keeps it from happening the same way twice. That needs an account; this page never will.
